Whitewood Lodge, Bristol

Set against the backdrop of an Iron Age fort, Whitewood Lodge was a project of restoration and balance. Over the years, the garden had matured to the point of obscuring its best assets, so our work began by editing the landscape, reopening internal views to reconnect the home with the exceptional countryside beyond.

Beyond the structural changes, we wanted to breathe new life into the space. A birch grove was established as a playful, immersive feature for adventurous grandchildren to explore, underplanted with a tapestry of woodland edge species.

The natural swimming pool was anchored into the site through expanded borders filled with low maintenance, hard working plants that offer year round interest. By clarifying the circulation through the garden, the journey from the back door to the orchard at the end now feels and inquisitive and coherent. The result is a refreshed landscape that finally feels at home in its history.
