Islington Townhouse
Created for a young and enthusiastic first-time homeowner, this garden is designed as a welcoming space to cook, eat, and relax with friends. Every element encourages social connection and outdoor living, transforming a compact London plot into a vibrant extension of the home.
A outdoor kitchen and its relationship with the bespoke social seating area forms the heart of the design, carefully positioned to encourage connection when entertaining. The kitchen includes a fridge, sink, and generous storage, combining practicality with sculptural simplicity.
Reclaimed granite kerbstone steps and powder coated steel raised beds introduce robust texture and a sense of permanence, while a colourful and layered planting scheme softens the harder materials and brings the garden to life through the seasons.
A new staircase leads to an upper terrace, creating another inviting seating area and a fresh perspective on the garden below. Despite its urban setting, the space feels like a green retreat. Calm, comfortable, and full of personality.
Thoughtful details including a fire pit, along with integrated storage for bikes and bins and firewood, ensure that every inch of this small terraced garden works hard without compromise.
“Freddie was a delight to work with from start to finish…
He patiently listened to me ramble about flowers I had no knowledge of, and then took me round to see his interpretations at a show. He then planned an organised my entire garden project which has turned a white slab into exactly the flowery meadow I described to him a year ago.
I couldn't recommend Freddie more highly!” - Tom
